Friday tunes 21

It’s been a week of mixes…

Really chilled out 6Music playlist – Awesome for Fridays and / or hangovers
Bootie mash-up - 2010 - For all you Girl Talk fiends and mash-up fans. Highlight for me: Will Smith v Daft Punk > Back Street Boys v Ray Charles > La Roux v Many > Temptations v Deadmau5. Click on the links at the top of the text for a pop-up player or free download
Dimitri From Paris - BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix - 19.03.2011 - Ahhhh yeah! A recent Dimitri mix, his usual flavour of funky house (Cheers Burty and RW)
Stanton Warrior – Stanton Sessions Vol.2 – In excitement of tonight’s album launch at Proud 2 (@ The O2). Dub Step Heroes. Shout if you're keen to join!

Single tracks I’ve been loving…

New Deadmau5 single (YouTube) – Epic (Cheers Ganil). Incidentally, shout if you're keen for the Victoria Park gig on Sat 11th July, the line-up is awesome
Duck Sauce – Barbra Streisand – I’ve heard it so many times, but only just found out what it is! (Cheers Bootie Mix)

And a selection of cool music videos from last night's BUG at the BFI…

Orelha Negra - M.I.R.I.A.M - Absolutely love this track, super chilled out groove and the coolest video I've seen in a long time! I'm thinking RJD2, Groove Armada and Air
Royksopp - Senior Living (competition winner) - Kooky video, really chilled out melancholy
Radiohead - Lotus Flower (from King of Limbs) - Great track. I found the video a little weird to start with (Yorke doing his thing), but loved it by the end
James Blake - Limit To Your Love - Beautiful track with some amazing bass. Listen to it with your good headphones
De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig - Elektrotechniek - Hilarious and slightly filthy video. Not safe for work, unless you work with people with a dirty sense of humour
Fever Ray - When I Grow Up - Loved this video. Totally gave me the creeps to start with, then got pretty intense
Gastmans - Eyes So Dry - Fun track (reminds me of Semisonic a little) and a fun video (with a creepy / funny ending)
Tyler The Creator - Yonkers - Pretty dark hip-hop video from Oddfuture. Like it, pretty grimy beats too with some cool piano licks
The Audreys - Sometimes the stars - A sweet little track with a cool black and white anime video. The train journey reminds me of Spirited Away

Hope you enjoy!

Friday tunes 19

Gil Scott-Heron – Original Album Classics – For a good bit of classic soul (just released a single with Jamie XX: Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie xx – NY Is Killing Me)
Unforscene – Fingers And Thumbs – Something more recent, but still soulful (yet more tracks feat. Alice Russell)
The Asteroids Galaxy Tour – Fruit – Jazzy. Reminds me of a female Beck in parts (‘Satellite’)
Hank Mobley – Dig Dis (Rudy Van Gelder Edition) – A classic bit of Blue Note jazz
Queens Of The Stone Age – Queens Of The Stone Age (Grooveshark link) – With their usual breed of sinister and melancholy Mojave metal. This is their first album, God, I love it.

Individual tracks
Mr. Scruff – Fix That Speaker – love that acid jazz
Queens Of The Stone Age – Can’t Quit On Me Baby – Classic QOTSA, amazingly haunting
Deadmau5 – Animal Rights – picked me up when I was flagging
Deadmau5 – Raise Your Weapon – Beautiful track, but watch out for the drop 4 minutes in
